Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ
also accepted us to the glory of God. Rom 15:7
of Del Norte, Colorado
Whom do we serve?
We serve the unemployed, the hungry, the homeless, the abused, the unloved, the disabled, the recently released from incarceration, and the addicted.
The mission is to restore people to usefulness from their present broken state.
ABOUT
THE PROGRAM
We conduct a 6-12 month
residential restoration program designed to bring someone out of the cycle of homelessness. The program amounts to a Christian discipleship training. The facilities are a modest (no "country-club") rural mountain living in a group home in a small town. We are not a state approved treatment provider. We operate fully as a Christian ministry with the love of God, the grace of Jesus Christ, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
The fee is $3100 covering the 6-12 month program. It can be paid on a monthly basis if necessary. Ask us about our work-for-treatment provision.

This may seem "insane" to charge a fee to the homeless or disadvantaged!? But, imagine the sense of accomplishment borne within the ex-homeless when they have learned to pay their own way instead of feeling "entitled" to assistance, to bless someone else—financially, and to know the joy of paying bills required to survive in American society. And for most homeless and disadvantaged, learning to be and stay self-sufficient is a significant hurdle. These skills will be learned here. We have accomplished it over and over—even with those who are disabled.
[ We also conduct a drug and alcohol recovery program - here ]

4. Healing through volunteer service and work, and recreational therapy,
5. Teach the Word of God and Biblical life principles,
6. Change the resident’s heart through the washing of the Word,
7. Teach proper decision making,
8.
Teach life skills for successful living through training, actual
practice, and modeling, (worker worthiness, relationships skills,
money management, stress management, handling adversity, job prep
& search, Christian parenting, outdoor recreation, non-drinking
activities, foster pet care.)9. Push resident towards successful completion of court and motor vehicle requirements,
10. Encourage residents to pursue or complete college or vocational education before leaving.
11. Reconciliation of broken relationships (marriage, children, employers).
Upon graduation, the resident will have had a chance to practice living their new life before going back to living on their own.

NOTE: Recreation therapy consists of participating in white water rafting, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, snow sledding, drives in the mountains, snow shoeing, etc. It is in the outdoors where we can hear the Lord speak to us. We have a chance to witness His creation and rid ourselves of self-centered focus.

"When I came to Onesimus program I was a totally broken person. I was a Christian, but I wasn’t walking with Christ. I had been separated from my husband for the last one and a half years. I had even been hospitalized for being suicidal. I was using prescription drugs and alcohol to try to dull the pain of sexual abuse that I suffered as a child. It didn’t work. It only destroyed my life and those I loved even further. The Lord led me to the Onesimus House and that is where my healing began. Through intensive Biblical counseling the Lord broke these bondages of my past and set me free. I never thought that could be possible! My marriage is now restored and I am back with my family. I can face life without the drugs and alcohol. I am again walking with the Lord and it is so sweet and refreshing. I am truly blessed!" Laura
Whats In The Name?
The name for the home is drawn from the runaway slave,
Onesimus, whose
story is found in the book Philemon (New Testament). The name Onesimus
means useful. The Apostle Paul asked a personal favor of Philemon to
accept back his runaway slave (instead of punishment by death) who once
was ’useless’ to Philemon and had now become useful
to both
Paul and Philemon after his conversion and discipleship by Paul. In the
same way, we would expect people to come into the Onesimus House in a
broken and useless state and to return to their home or society
restored to a useful condition.
